The citizens are encouraged to take the drug ‘Soma’ to get rid of any stress and anxiety. As natural reproduction does not happen, people are encouraged to be sexually active from an early age. While the babies are sleeping they are molded using sleep-hypnosis to become members of one of the society’s high castes. Babies are not born in the normal manner, they are rather grown in test tubes in laboratories. There is almost universal employment and the society is peaceful and stable. The world’s population is kept stable at 2 billion and there are plenty of resources for everyone. The story is set in London in 632 A.F (After Ford) which signifies 632 years after the birth of American industrialist Henry Ford.
